The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is one of the prime ministers’ offices. The PMO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the government. It also handles a number of other administrative matters, such as foreign affairs, defence and intelligence.
The position was created by the Government of Pakistan in 1974 when Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto announced that he would be forming a cabinet with three ministries: Foreign Affairs, Defence and Information Technology. Bhutto also established a board to oversee these ministries. The board was known as the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC). The official name was changed to “Board of Investment” in 2000 and has been renamed to “Prime Minister’s Office” since then.
